A
list of Places to Stay while visiting
the Church and Sabbath
Trail.
Directions
Warning: Many of the map sites which give directions attempt to bring you in
from the south off of Route 123 via Kings Highway (also King St,
Millen Lake Rd). The road between Route 123
and the Sabbath Trail is a rough dirt road and should be avoided. The
only good way in is off of Route 31 in the center of Washington.
From Route 31:
At the town
center in Washington there is a white gazebo on the west side of Route
31. Turn west onto Faxon Hill Road which is just south of the gazebo.
Proceed out Faxon Hill Road approximately 2.1 miles. Turn left onto King
Street, which is a dirt road. Proceed south on King Street for 0.3 miles
and the Washington NH SDA Church
will be on the left. There is a parking lot on the left just prior to
reaching the Church. Please park in the parking lot.
King Street,
which is a dirt road, is not maintained for travel in the winter.

Directions
to the Sabbath Trail and Washington Church
from the Lancaster MA area.
Basic: Rt 2 west, Rt 140 north, Rt 12 north (see detailed
instructions below for Glenallen Rd cutoff to Rt 202 north), Rt 202
north/east to Hillsboro NH, Rt 9 west, Rt 31 north to Washington
NH, left onto Faxon Hill Rd at the gazebo and left onto King St., the
Sabbath Trail is 0.3 miles on the left.
Detailed: Take Rt 2 west to exit 24B which is Rt 140 north. Take
Rt 140 north for about 10 miles to Rt 12. Take a left onto Rt 12 north
and go 1.5 miles to Glenallen Rd where you will see a sign saying "To
Rt 202 North" (this will bypass Winchendon). (If you miss Glenallen
Rd, Rt 140 takes you into Winchendon and you can take a right onto Rt
202 north there.) Turn right onto Glenallen Rd and go 1.6 miles and merge
onto Rt 202 north. Follow Rt 202 north and east (In
MA 202 runs north/south, in NH it runs east/west) for 29 miles passing through Jaffrey (right followed by a left) and
Peterboro (right at light and after crossing bridge turn left) to Antrim
NH. In Antrim you will see a Rt 31 sign which points to Washington - don't
take it as it is a little slower (somewhat more scenic) route. In Antrim
NH continue following Rt 202 east for 6.2 miles until you come to Rt 9
(McDonalds) in Hillsboro. From Rt 202 make a left turn onto Rt 9 west
and follow Rt 9 for 1.6 miles to Rt 31. Make a right turn onto Rt 31 north
and go 9.5 miles which brings you into Washington NH. Immediately before
the white gazebo or bandstand on the left, make a left turn onto Faxon
Hill Road. Proceed out Faxon Hill road for 2.1 miles to King Street. At
that junction there is a Washington SDA sign. Turn left onto King Street,
which is a dirt road, and go 3/10 of a mile. There is a dirt parking lot
on the left just prior to reaching the Washington NH SDA Church.
Basic Return Trip: Go to the end of King St and turn right onto
Faxon Hill Road proceed to the center of Washington, right onto Rt 31
South, left onto Rt 9 east (stop sign), right onto Rt 202 west (at McDonalds)
to NH/MA state line. After crossing the state line, (boat store on left with blinking light above center of road) go 1.6
miles on Rt 202 south. Watch for the FITCHBURG sign at the blinking light
(Ray Plastics is on the left) and go in that direction. At the stop sign
turn left onto Rt 12 south, then take Rt 140 south to Rt 2 east.
From Lancaster
MA it is about 80 miles and between 1hr 45min and 2 hours of driving time.
Warning: Pay strict attention to the speed limits.
